How to Clean Your Frigidaire Water Filter

It is always best to replace your Frigidaire water filter but in such a case where you don’t have a new filter ready and available you can clean the filter until you purchase a new, clean filter. You will simply need a trash can, household cleaner, filter cleaner (if preferred), and a basin.

To remove just turn the filter counterclockwise one-quarter turn and pull out. There may be a button next to the filter that can be pressed for the filter to easily pop out. Once you remove the new filter you can begin the cleaning process:

1. Softly tap the filter on the edge of the trash can to knock of any excess loose particles. Be sure not to tap hard or you may break your filter. If you are having trouble getting some debris off, that’s fine, they will soak off in the second step of this process.
2. Next soak your Frigidaire water filter in a basin using a gentle household cleaner. Make sure the filter is submerged in the cleaner and that all sides are being soaked. There are also many filter cleaners available at hardware or home repair stores that are specially designed for this process.
3. Once submerged in the cleaner let the filter soak for about 10 minutes.
4. After 10 minutes has passed it is time to rinse the filter. Rinse well under warm water until the water passing through the filter is running clear. Do not use a hard water pressure. The filters are delicate and could be damaged very easily if hit hard enough by the water.
5.  Place the Frigidaire water filter in a clean, dry place to air dry completely.  It’s best to leave the filter dry overnight. Once the filter is completely dry you can place the filter back into the refrigerator.
