How to Change Your Electric Range Burner

As in most appliances, parts will come and go with age and use. Because the your cooktop is one of the most commonly used areas of your kitchen, you can expect having to replace a few parts over time. Whether it's a drip pan or an electric range burner, replacement of many stove parts can be easy, fast, and hassle free. To aid in the replacement of your electric range burners, Frigidaire offers up these suggestions on how to check up on your heating element's performance, as well as instructions on how to replace one:

1. Checking Your Electric Range Burner
Even though you cook on it nearly every day, detecting a problem in your burner may not happen until performance has severely deteriorated. However, there's an easy way to test its performance even before you notice a difference. First, put your burner onto the highest setting then wait until it heats up entirely. If there are spots that are not glowing red, it usually means that your element is beginning to fail and will need to be replaced. Replacement will also be necessary if you notice a much brighter glowing in a specific area of the element.

If you're unsure if an element is bad, you can also test it by plugging it into an equal sized burner area. If it doesn't work there, you know it's time to replace it. If it does, you may have a problem in your connections and should call an appliance repair provider to get it fixed correctly.

2. Replacing An Electric Range Burner
To replace your electric range burner, first you need the right part. Frigidaire offers a wide selection of stove top burners for top brands like GE, Kenmore, Maytag, Frigidaire or Whirlpool, as well as universal parts that should fit your unit perfectly. Check out the selection and pick the size you need for your stove top. Next, unplug the old burner as you would if you were cleaning it. Then just insert the new burner. It's that simple. The trick is in finding the right size and right type for your stove top.

3. Cleaning and Maintenance
Heating elements must also be checked frequently for corrosion and grime. Sometimes, build up of grease and dirt can prevent a burner from heating correctly and could be a quick fix for your cooktop. To check to see if there's build up, unplug your range and then detach the burner and take a look at the connecting prongs. Do you notice any blackness, corrosion, or dirt? For a bit of dirt, clean it as you normally would, but if it's corrosion, it's time to replace it. To maintain your electric range burner, be sure to clean it regularly with a non-corrosive cleaner.
